TYPES OF CONTAINERS

A freight container is an integral part of the entire shipping industry, trade and transport. It is used as a swap body of vehicles (cars, wagons, ships, aircraft, etc.), which is adapted for mechanized loading, unloading and reloading from one type of transport to another. The dimensions and capacity of the containers correspond to the carrying capacity and overall dimensions of the vehicles; the strength and design of the container protects the contents during long trips. Operation of containers is possible in the temperature range from –60 to +70°C

Depending on the type of products shipped, containers vary in size, structure, design, etc. Also, all containers are standardized by gross weight, overall dimensions, connecting dimensions, as well as by the design of devices for mounting them on rolling stock of railway and road vehicles and to gripping bodies of loading and unloading machines. This allows for multimodal transport by various means of transport, realizing the door-to-door principle known in logistics. Listed below are some of the most common types of containers currently in use.
